Connor McDavid won’t return to Oilers line-up before NHL All-Star game

EDMONTON — Connor McDavid will not return to the Oilers line-up before the NHL All-Star weekend at the end of January.

Oilers Head Coach Todd McLellan made the announcement following Saturday’s practice at Rexall Place.

“We’ve determined Connor is not physically ready to play between now and then,” McLellan told reporters. The NHL All-Star weekend is Jan. 30 and 31.

The 18-year-old hockey phenom is back skating with the team after suffering a cracked clavicle in a game against the Philadelphia Flyers on Nov. 3.

McDavid had 12 points in 13 games before the injury.

Edmonton was 5-8-0 with McDavid in the lineup.

After a 3-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning Friday night, the Oilers’ record now sits at 17-22-3.
