Man wanted for Edmonton-area cellphone store robberies turns himself in to police

EDMONTON- A 20-year-old man wanted in connection with a string of armed robberies turned himself in to police in Edmonton Tuesday.

Dawit Abraham Atsbaha now faces numerous charges in connection with the armed robbery of a Rogers Wireless store in Leduc on Dec. 16.

Police said the store was robbed by two masked men who police believed were carrying guns.

Atsbaha will remain in custody until his next scheduled appearance in Leduc Provincial Court on Jan. 28, where he will speak to the following charges:

· Robbery with a Firearm
· Forcible Confinement
· Disguise with intent to commit Robbery

Police said they are investigating whether the Leduc robbery is related to similar incidents in Edmonton, Fort Saskatchewan and Leduc in recent months.

On Dec. 28, RCMP were called to an armed robbery at the Bell Wireless Store on Discovery Way in Leduc. According to police, three masked men wearing dark clothing entered the store and threatened two employees with knives before stealing some merchandise and fleeing on foot.

On Nov. 23, the Telus Store in Fort Saskatchewan was also robbed by three masked men.
