REGINA – Demolition started on Thursday at Evraz Place to make way for a new International Trade Centre.

The first phase of construction will involve the demolition of 14 buildings and should be completed by March 2016, well before construction begins.

In the fall of 2015 it was announced that $37 million in funding was secured to build the new trade centre.

This new centre will replace 14 old and decrepit building on the west side of Evraz Place with a 150,000 sq ft. multi-purpose facility. This building will connect to the Canada Centre on the western edge of the property with the AgEx building, meaning all the buildings will be interconnected on the property (minus the new stadium).

“This facility will greatly enhance our event flexibility and capacity which will benefit our city and province,” said Mark Allan, with the Regina Exhibition Association.

“It will add 150,000 sq ft. of connected indoor building space and 90,000 sq ft. of exhibit and tradeshow space to the existing one million sq ft. of indoor space on the property today.”

The International Trade Centre is scheduled to open up in November 2017.
