Katepwa snowmobiler found dead

REGINA – A snowmobiler from Katepwa was found dead near the shoreline of Katepwa Lake Tuesday night.

Just after 8:00 p.m. on Jan. 5, RCMP were called for assistance locating a 31-year-old man from the village of Katepwa who had not been heard from since Monday night.

Police attended and met with family who had since found the man on the lake shore near his residence. A snowmobile was located nearby on its side and EMS declared the man dead at the scene.

“The lake is frozen, but he was found on the shoreline,” said Cpl. Drew Wagner of the Fort Qu’Appelle RCMP.

“I would say a metre or two from the lake, very close proximity.”

Wagner said an investigation is ongoing and an autopsy has been scheduled to determine how the man came be on the shoreline.

“We don’t know if he had a medical emergency that caused this,” said Wagner.

“We don’t know if he was impaired, we don’t know if he hit something.”

The identity of the man will not be released at the request of the family.
