Man charged with attempted murder in slashing attack on girl, 13, in Toronto

TORONTO – A man is facing several charges after a 13-year-old girl was allegedly slashed across the neck and back in mid-town Toronto.

Police say they responded to a stabbing call Tuesday afternoon in the area of Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue.

It’s alleged that a man and a 13-year-old girl were talking in front of an apartment building when the man became upset and cut the girl along the base of her neck.

Police say the girl ran away from the man and he then cut her across her back.

A witness intervened and held the man until police arrived and the girl was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 50-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon and threatening death.

The name of the accused is not being released to protect the identity of the victim.
