The Brandon Wheat Kings pulled the trigger on a four player trade with the Saskatoon Blades on Monday.
The Wheatties acquired 20-year-old defenseman Mitchell Wheaton and fellow blueliner Schael Higson from the Blades. In return the Blades pick up forward Braylon Shmyr and defenseman Colton Waltz. Brandon also receives a second round draft pick in the 2017 WHL Bantam draft as part of the deal.

With the trade deadline fast approaching, the Wheat Kings add some size with the addition of the six foot-five inch, 223 pound Wheaton. He’s a fifth round draft choice of the Detroit Red Wings. In 38 games this season Wheaton has 10 assists along with 50 penalty minutes.
Higson, 17, is playing in just his second WHL season and has three goals and two assists in 33 games.
“This move was to address our blue line and add depth,” Wheat Kings G.M./head coach Kelly McCrimmon said in a media release. “As well, we acquire a high pick which will have value for us.”
The WHL trade deadline is Sunday.
