Taxi driver leads Saskatoon police to attempted murder suspect

SASKATOON – Police took a 23-year-old man into custody in connection with an investigation into an injured person in Saskatoon. The suspect is now facing a charge of attempted murder.

At around midnight on Jan. 4, an officer attended a home in the Pleasant Hill neighbourhood in an attempt to locate a person.

Authorities say the officer witnessed an injured man lying inside the residence in the 200-block of Avenue O South and called for medical assistance.

The 59-year-old resident of the home was taken to hospital by MD Ambulance with what are believed to be life-threatening head injuries.

While police were at the residence, two patrol officers were waved down by a taxi driver in the downtown area.  The driver reported that he had a suspicious man in the vehicle.

After questioning, officers took the 23-year-old man into custody in connection with the injured man.

The accused is expected to appear before a justice of the peace Monday evening.
