Fireworks, free concert highlight New Year’s bash at Old Port

MONTREAL – As New Year’s celebrations get underway around the world, preparations are in full swing in Montreal’s Old Port.

For the third year, Merry Montreal is planning A New Year’s Eve bash  in the heart of Old Montreal.

Festivities kick-off at 7.p.m. at the Place Jacques Cartier, and the real fun starts at 10 p.m. with a free outdoor concert featuring Quebec chanteuse Cœur de Pirate, as well as performances by Dumas, Bernard Adamus and  Yann Perrault.

And to make sure the New Year starts off with a bang, fireworks will light-up the night sky at the stroke of midnight.

For those really wanting to get into the swing of things, an outdoor dance party with DJ VitoV from Virgin Radio, will keep you grooving to the best beats of the year until 2 a.m.

Last year’s extravaganza reportedly drew, some 60,000 revelers and organizers are expecting an even bigger crowd this year.
