WINNIPEG — Winnipeg’s “Bannock Lady” is throwing her hat into the political ring.
Althea Guiboche, who is 41, will run for the Manitoba Liberals in the constituency of Point Douglas.
Another candidate, Noel Bernier, was slated to run in Point Douglas but will move to the riding of St. John’s.

Manitoba Liberal Leader Rana Bokhari says Guiboche is one of Manitoba’s most celebrated activists.
Bokhari says Guiboche has won several awards, including the Manitoba Hero award in 2014.
The next provincial election in Manitoba is set for April 19.

“I am completely dedicated to fighting for a better life for those who have been left behind by this government,” Guiboche said in a news release Wednesday.
“I will never stop fighting to improve the lives of all Manitobans affected by these issues. I am a proud resident of the Point Douglas neighbourhood and look forward to the opportunity to be a driving force for meaningful change in the North End.”
Guiboche became known for making and giving away bannock to whoever needed it.
