HALIFAX – Candidates hoping to fill a vacancy on Halifax regional council have until the end of business on Tuesday to officially register their interest.
The District 6 seat was vacated when former councillor Darren Fisher resigned in order to run for the Liberal Party in October’s federal election.

The district covers areas including Dartmouth North, the Burnside Industrial Park, Highfield Park, Dartmouth Crossing and a portion of Dartmouth East.
The byelection is scheduled for Jan. 23.
The returning officer will accept nominations at the election office in Dartmouth until 5 p.m.
All potential candidates must be at least 18 years old, have resided in the Halifax Regional Municipality for at least six months prior to their nomination day and meet all other eligibility criteria under the Municipal Elections Act.
The next Halifax municipal election is scheduled for October 2016.
