Emergency crews were called out to a collision southwest of Nanton, Alta. on Highway 22 and Highway 533 just after 11:15 a.m. Monday.
A minivan and a pickup truck were involved in the crash, and eight people – six from the van and two from the truck – were transported to various hospitals. The adults in the van were taken to Calgary hospitals so that they could be near their children. The decision was not a reflection of their injuries, according to EMS.

All of the victims are considered to be in stable, non-life-threatening condition with minor injuries:
Van:
- Male in his 40s, transported to the Foothills Medical Centre;
- Female in her 40s, transported (with her four children) to the Alberta Children’s Hospital;
- Four children, all under the age of 10, transported to the Alberta Children’s Hospital.
Truck:
- Male in his 70s, transported to Oilfields General Hospital;
- Female in her 70s, transported to Oilfields General Hospital.
RCMP report that the southbound pickup truck crossed into the northbound lanes where the minivan was travelling and hit the van head on.
Road conditions were very icy at the time, and they do not anticipate laying any charges.
Nanton is about 90 kilometres south of Calgary.
