KELOWNA – While some hit the stores to find deals on Saturday, a handful of people in Kelowna offered up a Boxing Day deal of their own.
About two dozen people spent some of their afternoon standing out in the cold offering up free hugs to anyone who passed by.
It’s an annual tradition now in its sixth year.
It all started in memory of a local resident who passed away six years ago. He had seen the free hug movement but passed away before he could be a part of it.

“His name was Wayne Cobb and at his memorial they asked instead of donating to something specific to do a ‘pay it forward’ movement and so this is the continuation of that,” says organizer, Angie Clowry.
Now, every Boxing Day, a handful of huggers turn out in his honour with the goal of lifting spirits and brightening people’s day with a bit of affection.
