VERNON — If you’re in the greater Vernon area and notice something abnormal about your water, it may be because of an issue with the Kalamalka Lake water source.

Greater Vernon Water (GVW) customers have been switched to the Duteau Water Treatment Plant (DCWTP) due to electrical issues with the Mission Hill Water Treatment Plant/Kalamalka Lake water source, according to the

Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO).

Water quality manager Renee Clark says the switch took place on Saturday and will remain in place until the new year as the electrical problem is investigated.

“Customers who are not normally on the DCWTP will notice that the water is much softer and the water has a low alkalinity and pH,” says Clark.

“This may be of interest to those customers who have in-home water treatment systems or aquariums.”
