SASKATOON – The first snow angel of the 2015-16 snow season has been recognized by the city. The December winner of Saskatoon’s snow angel program is Pat Freriks.
Freriks was nominated by his neighbour for being a considerate resident and shoveling snow for those who can’t.
“Every year since Pat has been living beside us, he clears my house of snow along with his,” said Simon Valentine, who nominated Freriks.

“He’s never asked for anything in return and brushes it off when we thank him.”

The snow angel program recognizes people who help neighbours keep their sidewalks clear of snow and ice.
“Having sidewalks cleared is very important for the mobility of our residents and their quality of life,” said Andrew Hildebrandt, the city’s director of community standards.
“Because everybody has to pitch in and do their part and keep them clean, we like to have a program that can acknowledge those who go above and beyond.”
A city bylaw makes it mandatory for residential sidewalks to be cleared of snow and ice within 48 hours of a snowfall.
