A back and forth game between the Vancouver Canucks and the Florida Panthers ended with a 5-4 loss for the Canucks in a shootout.
Aleksander Barkov scored the winner on Jacob Markstrom, who replaced Ryan Miller after one shot in the shootout after Miller appeared to injure his leg.
The odd shootout followed a spirited three periods and overtime in Florida, with the Canucks having 34 shots to the Panthers’ 41.

Vancouver kicked off the scoring with a goal by Jannik Hansen six minutes into the first period. After Shawn Thornton tied it minutes later for Florida, Sven Baertschi was able to score his fourth of the season off a nice cross-ice pass by Bo Horvat to give Vancouver a 2-1 lead.

The Panthers took a 3-2 lead after goals by Jaromir Jagr at the end of the first – who passed Marcel Dionne for fourth on the all-time scoring list with his 732 career goal – and Vincent Trocheck at the beginning of the second.
But the Canucks tied the game twice in the second period: first on a goal by Derek Dorsett 21 seconds after Trocheck’s goal, and and again with five minutes left in the frame on Daniel Sedin’s team-leading 15th goal of the season.

The Canucks are now 12-14-9 on the season, tied for second in the Pacific Division. The Panthers are 18-12-4, tied for second in the Atlantic Division.
