Homegrown baseball hero Russell Martin steps up to plate in charity game

MONTREAL – Toronto Blue Jays star catcher and Notre-Dame-de-Grâce golden boy Russell Martin was in town Saturday to do what he does best — play ball!

Team Russell Martin went head-to-head with the 4 Chevaliers Saturday afternoon at the Terrebonne sports complex for the second edition of the fast-pitch softball Winter Classic.

Although the game was friendly in nature, Team Russell Martin had something to prove. The last time the two teams met, the 4 Chevaliers came out on top.

Organizers are hoping to raise $50,000 at this year’s event,  with proceeds going to minor baseball in Quebec.

The Winter Classic is presented in collaboration with the Jays Care Foundation, whose goal is to use baseball as a tool for positive change in the lives of Canadian youth.
