Southeast Calgary business suffers severe smoke damage in fire

CALGARY – A southeast Calgary business suffered severe smoke damage from a fire that sparked on Thursday evening.

Crews were called to Foothills Truck and Trailer Service Ltd. in the 6600 block of 44 Street S.E. at around 11 p.m.

When they arrived, crews found smoke pouring from an industrial strip mall and a five ton van engulfed in flames.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze, but said the van was destroyed.

In addition, investigators don’t think it’s likely that normal business operations will be able to resume at Foothills Truck and Trailer Service Ltd. until repairs have been completed.

“Adjacent units appeared to suffer minor smoke damage,” said the Calgary Fire Department in a news release.

No injuries were reported.
