VERNON – The dropping of criminal charges against a Vernon man stemming from a dispute with his neighbour has not ended police involvement with the two men.
The Crown declined to proceed with the charges against Stephen Truscott because his accuser, retired RCMP Sergeant Scott Remple, wrongly accessed and copied Truscott’s personal information at the Vernon police station.
Those charges, including uttering threats, stemmed from actions allegedly made by Truscott after he was bitten by Remple’s dog.
Remple was later dismissed from his civilian job at the RCMP detachment.

Now police are investigating Truscott on allegations made by his neighbour of criminal harassment and libel concerning letters from the RCMP to Truscott that he posted around the neighbourhood.
“There was material added to the bottom of the letter that contained comments that were clearly defamatory to my wife and I,” says Remple.
“It’s only criminal libel if it’s untrue. But it’s true,” says Truscott.
The additions include a photo of Remple in RCMP uniform saying “fired”, a mention of his wife, references to stealing personal information, being untruthful and playing the victim card.
“The police have asked me about it and I told them to get a warrant for my computer,” says Truscott.
On the publicly posted letters Truscott substituted his name for Mr. Cold Revenge.
“Perhaps the RCMP and/or Crown Counsel consider the altered letter with the reference to “Mr. Cold Revenge” to be documentary proof of Mr. Truscott’s inappropriate conduct towards my wife and I,” says Remple in his statement to Global Okanagan News.
