Saskatoon-bound refugees landing in Canada Friday

SASKATOON – Fourteen Syrian refugees are slated to arrive in Saskatoon in the coming days, according to the Government of Canada. Their flight is scheduled to arrive at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport Friday.

It’s not clear exactly what time the newcomers will touch down in Saskatoon.

Seven of the refugees are government sponsored, while the other seven are on blended visas, according to provincial communications staff.

Blended visas split costs between private and government sponsorships. The Saskatoon-bound travellers are scheduled to make the trip overseas as part of a group of 224.

The federal government has pledged to welcome 25,000 Syrian refugees by the end of February.
