No charges against Coderre in jackhammer stunt

MONTREAL – Mayor Denis Coderre will not be charged for taking a jackhammer to the foundation of a Canada Post community mailbox in Pierrefonds-Roxboro.

The mayor destroyed the concrete slab at the l’Anse à l’Orme park on Aug. 13.

A citizen filed a police complaint following the televised stunt.

Monday afternoon, the Crown told Global News it has dropped the case against Coderre.

“After analysis, there are no accusations,” said Jean-Pascal Boucher with the DPCP.

He did not say why.

The incident happened during Canada-wide protests against Canada Post’s decision to install community mailboxes while eliminating door-to-door delivery.

The new federal Liberal government has since put a stop to any new community boxes.
