SQ investigates Denis Coderre jackhammer antic

MONTREAL – Provincial police are investigating after Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre took a jackhammer to a concrete slab that was designated for a Canada Post community mailbox in Pierrefonds-Roxboro.

The highly publicized stunt took place in August.

At the time, defence lawyer Philip Schneider told Global News that Coderre could be charged with mischief under the Criminal Code or face charges under the Canada Postal Act.

The Mayor has spoken out loudly in the past about his opposition to Canada Post’s decision to stop door-to-door service in Canada.

His actions gained the attention of the Bloc Québécois, the NDP and the Liberals, who said the city is right to “speak out” against the present government’s lack of consultations.
