Second deadly crash on southern Alberta highways in one day

The RCMP is investigating another deadly crash that happened on a southern Alberta highway on Saturday. One man died and a woman was critically injured in the single-vehicle crash on Highway II near Standoff, Alta.

It was the second deadly collision to take place that same day.

At approximately 5:00 p.m. Saturday, an SUV lost control and veered off the highway, rolling into a field while heading south on Highway II southwest of Lethbridge.

A 37-year-old man was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. As of Sunday morning, RCMP said the 30-year-old woman remained in critical condition.

Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash.

Fort MacLeod RCMP along with an RCMP Collision Analyst are working to determine if charges will be laid.

The families of the two people involved have been notified. Their names are not being released.

Standoff, Alta. is about 200 kilometres south of Calgary.
