Festival du Voyageur’s Beard Growing Contest kicks off

WINNIPEG — Time to throw away those razors, the Festival Du Voyageur’s annual Beard Growing Contest kicks off Thursday evening.

The contest, which is back for its 34th year, is asking participants to arrive with their beards and not to shave. Contestants will then be given the opportunity to be shaved on site by a professional stylist.

Once the beard and scruff is gone, participants have 10 weeks to grow out their facial hair and compete for different categories, such as ‘wild and wooly’ and  ‘groomed mustache’.

The events starts at 5:00 p.m. at the Albert Street Cocktail Company on 91 Albert Street.

Festival du Voyageur runs from February 12 to 21.
