A man has been taken into police custody after barricading himself inside the Chase branch Royal Bank for more than six hours.

RCMP officers say the 58-year-old man surrendered without incident.

Mounties were called the branch shortly after 4:30 on Thursday afternoon to deal with an armed robbery.

All employees and occupants were told by the man to exit the building shortly after he entered. Witnesses reported that the man was holding what appeared to be a bomb. He was also seen with a knife and a handgun.

It was determined after the arrest that the man was suffering from self-inflicted, non-life-threatening injuries. He remains in hospital care.

Police say the device that the man had been carrying was a mock-up resembling an IED that was inert.
