Calgary police release sketch of suspect in attempted child abduction

CALGARY – Police released a composite sketch Monday of a male suspect in the attempted abduction of a child in Calgary’s northwest last week.

Police said a child was approached by a man in a convenience store at 4615 Valiant Drive N.W. at about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1.

The 12-year-old victim was verbally threatened by the suspect, but ran to a nearby school and reported the incident to police.

Police describe the suspect as a white male in his 40s with brown eyes, between 5’8” and 5’11”, with a round face, moustache or goatee, and short, balding grey hair. He was wearing a brown jacket, dark pants and “may have smelled of campfire and alcohol,” police said.

It is possible he was driving an older model 90s, two-door, grey sedan with no licence plate.

A composite sketch is being released in hopes the public may recognize and help to identify the suspect.
