Major repair work planned on Champlain Bridge

MONTREAL – Canada’s busiest bridge is in a constant state of repair and maintenance.

Repair and maintenance work is expected to continue on the Champlain Bridge for the next three years until its replacement is built.

Officials with the Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Corporation confirmed 43 new steel structures need to be added to the bridge’s piers next year to keep the structure safe.

Thirty-four of the structures, known as modular trusses, were added in 2015.

Officials also have to work closely with the consortium that is building the new Champlain Bridge to ensure there is no work disruptions and minimal impact on drivers.

The Champlain Bridge is one of the busiest in Canada with more than 160,000 vehicles crossing it everyday.
