MONTREAL – A petition requesting a stop sign at the corner of Somerled and Mariette streets in NDG has already gathered close to 90 signatures both online and on paper.
According to residents, traffic at the intersection has increased drastically in recent months, putting pedestrians at risk.
Parents and educators are especially concerned over safety for children as there are three schools and a daycare nearby.
Many worry it’s just a matter of time before a small child gets injured.
“It’s very scary, I’ve seen a lot of close calls” said Pamela Patenaude, director of Playskool daycare on Mariette street.
“I’ve seen cars go up on the sidewalk next to the daycare on days when there’s not enough salt on the street.”
Mitchell Kujavsky, the father-of two who created the petition, is hoping to gather 150 signatures before submitting it to the City of Montreal.
“There really should have been a stop sign here years ago,” he insisted.
