WINNIPEG — It’s fun and games at Across the Board Cafe, but Monday evening’s fun had a special purpose.

“What we know about games is they bring people together,” Clinton Skibitzy, one of the owners of Across the Board Cafe said.

“We really wanted to do something to help destroy that negative perception, to foster good will, positive relationships between people and a dialogue in the community,” Skibitzy said.

“Play for Peace” also served as a fundraiser for Syrian refgugees. Gamers were encouraged to make a ten dollar donation in exchange for some free food provided by Shawarma Khan.

“Bringing people together is always a good idea,” Shahina Siddiqui, president of the Islamic Association said. “They talk, they make friends, they get to know each other.”
