Symantec creates new trust mark for e-commerce to indicate secure websites

TORONTO – Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ:SYMC) is combining its VeriSign and Norton brands to create a new trust mark on the Internet for e-commerce to help protect identities and information.

Called the Norton Secured Seal, the check mark will indicate to consumers and businesses that the website is secure, Symantec said Monday.

“Our shift to delivering website security solutions further strengthens the protection of data and information in transit,” said Fran Rosch, vice-president of identity and authentication at Symantec.

“The Norton Secured Seal represents a major step in helping companies establish higher levels of website trust and confidence with their customers,” Rosch said in a news release.

Symantec said it believes 94 per cent of consumers are likely to continue an online purchase when they view the seal during the online checkout process.

Symantec acquired VeriSign’s security-related business for US$1.28 billion in 2010.
