Desiree Scott, Kianz Froese nominated for national soccer awards
WINNIPEG — A pair of Winnipeggers have been nominated for Soccer Canada’s annual Player of the Year awards.
Desiree Scott is one of eight finalists for the national women’s award after helping Canada to a sixth place finish at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Scott won an Olympic bronze medal at the 2012 London Games and currently plays for the Notts County Ladies of England’s Football Association Women’s Super League.
Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Kianz Froese meanwhile is up for the Canadian men’s under-20 award. Froese made his national team debut this past October at the age of 19. He also wore the maple leaf at the 2015 CONCACAF Men’s U20 Championship.
The winners will be announced from December 11-18 beginning with the Canadian Para Soccer Player of the Year. The country’s top male and female footballers will be revealed at the end of the week.
