Calgary public school board puts a pause on all international student trip planning

CALGARY – Effective Thursday night, the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) put a pause on all international student trip planning because of what it calls a world-wide terror threat.

The CBE said it has asked schools to take time to reflect on trips outside of Canada.

This means that schools are not be making any immediate decisions about trips, including cashing any cheques or collecting any fees.

The board hopes to make a final decision on future trips before the winter break.

Parents and students have been invited to information sessions where they can share their thoughts.

The CBE wrote the following statement on their website;

“We believe there is a need to take some time to make thoughtful and informed decisions. We are collecting perspectives of students, parents, and teachers involved in these trips, in order for senior administration to make decisions about international travel for the remainder of the school year. Parents and students participating in international trips have been invited to meetings where they can share their perspectives, as well as through an online survey.”
