Will Smith eyes career in politics, perhaps the U.S. presidency

Over the past several months, the United States has been in upheaval as the country ramps up to elect its new president. Kanye West has even announced that he’s running for the top spot in 2020 — though no one knows for sure if he’s sincere.

Now an A-list actor is talking about throwing his hat into the ring, and it’s none other than the Fresh Prince himself, Will Smith.

The father of three revealed his intentions on an Awards Chatter podcast:

“As I look at the political landscape, I think that there might be a future out there for me. They might need me out there. This is the first year that I’ve been incensed to a level that I can’t sleep, you know? So I’m feeling that at some point, in the near future, I will have to lend my voice to the conversation in a somewhat different way.”

If this comes to fruition, Smith would join such stars as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronald Reagan, who’ve both successfully entered the political world from acting careers. Judging from Smith’s performance in Independence Day, he certainly wouldn’t take any guff.
