Toronto tutor and fiancée charged in gang sexual assault of 14-year-old student

TORONTO — A Toronto math tutor and his fiancée have been charged in connection with the gang sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl, and investigators believe there may be more victims.

Police said the man was the girl’s tutor for a number of years and his fiancée had volunteered at the school. The couple had allegedly befriended the girl and she attended their home in the Lawrence Avenue East and The Donway East area on numerous occasions.

Police said the girl was sexually assaulted by the couple at an unspecified time in the summer of 2014.

Kevin Chan, 32, and Kayla Drumonde, 23, of Toronto, have each been charged with gang sexual assault and sexual interference.

They were scheduled to appear in court in Toronto on Wednesday and police have released photos of the suspects in hopes of encouraging more potential victims to come forward.

Police said Chan was affiliated with numerous Toronto-area schools working as a private math tutor and volunteer.

  • Dr. Norman Bethune Collegiate – September 2000 to June 2001 – 200 Fundy Bay Blvd., Toronto
  • Avondale Public School – September 2005 to November 2007 – 171 Avondale Ave., Toronto (Volunteer Teacher)
  • Willowdale Middle School – September 2008 to March 2009 – 225 Senlac Rd., Toronto
  • Flemington Public School – March 2009 to June 2009 – 10 Flemington Rd., Toronto
  • Light in the Attic Learning, 2011 – 124 Eglinton Ave. W., Toronto
  • Spirit of Math (two locations) – September 2011 to August 2014 – 230 The Donway West, Toronto and 9291 Markham Rd., Markham
  • Mathnasium of Don Mills – November 2014 to November 2015 – 189 The Donway West, Toronto
