WINNIPEG – This world AIDS day, Winnipeggers have a unique opportunity to hear directly from five African women who are among those most intimately involved in the Global fight against HIV and AIDS.

In a speaker series coming to Winnipeg called “Ask her talks,” several women fighting the virus overseas will share their stories.

Some of the countries visited include Ethiopia, Kenya, South Africa, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.

According to the “Ask her Talks” series, there are 2 million new infections and 1.2 million deaths from AIDS each year.

And while the death rate from AIDS has decreased globally, it has increased dramatically for adolescents in sub-Saharan Africa-where young women and girls account for almost 62 percent of new infections.
