CALGARY – The News Hour at 6 is on the road Thursday Nov. 26 at the Genesis Centre, a community hub in Calgary’s northeast that’s believed to be the first and only one of its kind in North America.
The result of years of lobbying and planning by community volunteers in Martindale, Saddle Ridge and Taradale, the centre opened to the public in January 2012 with over one million visitors in its first year alone.
Genesis isn’t your typical rec centre – offering not only a sports complex, but a daycare, library, YMCA, health and social services, and even a prayer room.

We’ll explore the many things that make Genesis unique, and the challenges faced by people living in the most culturally diverse area of the city–at least one of out of every two people in the northeast neighbourhoods that border the centre are immigrants.
