Central Okanagan Sports Hall of Fame names 6 new inductees

Some excelled in their sport, others helped athletes thrive. Six Okanagan athletes and athletic supports are being inducted into the Central Okanagan Sports Hall of Fame for 2015.

Rod Belinski was head coach of the KLO Cougars for 21 years, winning five provincial titles and only missing provincials once during his coaching tenure.

Sarah Charles hit the international mat as a competitive gymnast, winning world championships and taking home Pan Am and Indo-Pacific Games gold.

Wayne Hicks is the only Kelowna player with his name on the Stanley Cup. He was part of the winning 1961 Chicago Blackhawks team and went on to play 117 NHL games during his career.

The late John and Jennifer Hindle started the Kelowna Apple Triathlon in 1983 which still draws in hundreds of athletes year after year.

Christie Van Hees is a household name in the world of racquetball. She’s won six national and two world championships during her career and was also ranked the top player in the world in 2005.
