Charge upgraded to 1st degree murder in Winnipeg riverbank shooting

WINNIPEG — Winnipeg police have upgraded charges to 1st degree murder in the death of a 49-year-old Beausejour man in June.

Jason Stinson was shot dead on the banks of the Red River on June 12, 2015. An off-duty officer had discovered his body near the water’s edge in Stephen Juba Park, north of The Forks.

Steven Anthony Morrisseau, 29,  was later arrested and charged with second degree murder. Morrisseau and Stinson were roommates and officers believe they got into a fight before Stinson was shot.

On Thursday, police upgraded Morrisseau’s charges to first degree murder.
