WINNIPEG – Snow covered the streets for the first time this season across Winnipeg Thursday morning.
Roughly 5cm was expected to fall in the city overnight with temperatures dropping to -5°.
Light snow started falling Wednesday at about 7:00 p.m. and is already causing problems on the roads, including a 17-vehicle pile up on Bishop Grandin Boulevard near River Road.
The temperature is expected to remain near -5° Thursday morning, falling to -8° in the afternoon.
With the wind chill, it could feel as cold as -20 early this evening. Strong winds are also anticipated between 50-70 km/h Thursday.
In other parts of the province, up to 15cm fell in Flin Flon while 10cm fell in Island Lake. Snowfall and blizzard warnings in northern Manitoba will continue throughout the day.
Due to the weather, buses will not be running and classes are cancelled Thursday for the Turtle Mountain school division which is in Killarney, Manitoba.

Schools a long Highway 6 in Lakeshore School Division is also closed. Schools on Highway 17 remain open.
