1 person dead in Malahat crash

One person was killed in a crash on the Malahat this morning.

The highway was closed between Goldstream Park and Bamberton  in both directions for hours due to the three-vehicle crash.

Several people also suffered serious injuries.

B.C. Transportation Minister Todd Stone says he was told a vehicle hit black ice and crossed into the oncoming lane, causing the serious crash.

He says there are plans to install more safety barriers on this stretch of highway, known for its steep and winding curves.

The morning sailings of the Mill Bay ferry are also cancelled due to a mechanical failure.
