‘Safe Sex for Seniors’ PSA aims to stop spread of STDs

TORONTO – A public service announcement
promoting the importance of using condoms and safe sex among sexually active
seniors is causing quite the stir on social media.

With the tagline, “There are many ways to do it.  There is only one
way to do it safely,” the video shows fully-clothed mature adults in
various Kama Sutra positions.

Produced by Safer Sex for Seniors, a
collective of professional sexuality educators, researchers, authors, trainers,
counsellors, and therapists, the advertising campaign aims to remind mature
adults that safer sex practices are essential.

The latest health and medical news emailed to you every Sunday.

SaferSex4Seniors.org says rates of
sexually transmitted diseases among active seniors have risen over 70 per cent
in the past five years. A 2010 study from Indiana University found the lowest
rates of condom use were among people ages 45 and older.

The ‘going viral’ video has already received criticism, appraisal and some speculation on its authenticity
(it’s real)
