EDMONTON – The city is reminding citizens that the use of e-cigarettes is banned from all public places in Edmonton where smoking is already prohibited.
The ban on smoking e-cigarettes or “vaping” came into effect on Oct. 20. It’s in effect in the following places:
- Inside a building;
- On a patio;
- Inside a public vehicle;
- Within five metres from a doorway, window or air intake of a building or patio;
- Within 10 metres of a playground, seasonal skating rink, skate park, sports field, or water spray park;
- Within a no smoking area.

The City of Edmonton recently made the bylaw change “to address any potential safety and nuisance concerns the public may experience with their use.”

The city pointed out smoking e-cigarettes is still allowed when someone is sampling the product inside an electronic cigarette retailer.
The fine for breaking the bylaw is the same as smoking offences.
