KELOWNA, B.C. – UPDATE 6:30 p.m.: RCMP say a reported child abduction has been confirmed to be a misunderstanding.
“Thanks to the quick attention of the media, the Kelowna RCMP have since confirmed that the incident witnessed by the child complainant had been false,” says Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey.
The people reported to be involved in the incident were located by police.
“The Kelowna RCMP would like to commend the actions of the vigilant young complainant who did the right thing by reporting the suspicious incident to her parents and in turn the police.” Said Cst. O’Donaghey.

KELOWNA — A strange set of circumstances in the mission area of Kelowna on Monday have led RCMP to seek the public’s help in investigating what may be a child abduction.
“A child complainant reported observing what they believed was another unknown child being put into the trunk of an unknown vehicle,” says Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey.
The incident reportedly happened around 2:30 p.m. in the area of Dorothea Walker Elementary School near Gordon Drive and Old Meadows Road.
“At this time the Kelowna RCMP have not received any reports of any missing children and have deployed all available resources,” says O’Donaghey.
“The Principal of Dorothea Walker Elementary School has sent a letter home to all parents regarding this unconfirmed incident as a precaution.”
The suspect is described as a tall Caucasian male with short brown or black hair wearing a brown coat and blue jeans.
The possible suspect vehicle is described as a dark grey sedan with a tinted black window and unknown licence plates.
The potential abducted child is described as a male believed to be in grade one or grade two and wearing a distinct black, red and blue backpack.
