5 people injured in crash south of Calgary

CALGARY – Five people were rushed to hospital after a collision southwest of Nanton on Monday.

The crash between a car and a mini-van happened just before 7:30 a.m. on Highway 22, south of Highway 533.

Paramedics transported two teenage boys from the car to the Alberta Children’s Hospital in non-life-threatening condition. Both were suffering from serious injuries to their lower extremities.

Three people from inside the van were also transported to hospital; a teenage male was taken to the Alberta Children’s Hospital in non-life-threatening condition with various soft-tissue injuries, while a male and female were taken to the Oilfields General Hospital with minor injuries.

A fourth person travelling in the van, an adult male, was uninjured.

It’s unknown what caused the collision, or if speed or weather conditions are considered factors.

Nanton is located about 100 kilometres south of Calgary.
