TORONTO – It’s Christmastime in the city apparently, and some people aren’t happy about it.
With Halloween out of the way, both the city and some retail stores alike started gearing up for the Christmas season this weekend, most conspicuously with the arrival of the 15-metre-high Christmas tree installed in Nathan Philips Square Saturday.
A few locals were quick to point out that city might be acting prematurely. After all, Christmas is still 46 days away but there’s another important day between now and Dec. 25.

In addition to the city hall Christmas tree, a 16-metre-high tree went up in the Distillery District Saturday and The Bay unveiled its traditional elaborate window displays along Queen and Yonge streets.
The city hall tree will hold some 700 decorations and almost four kilometres worth of lights. The first illumination is scheduled for Nov. 28.
