United Way helps those in need stay warm this winter

LETHBRIDGE – As we head towards winter, the reality is not everyone can afford warm clothes.

For those in need, the United Way is stepping up, launching it’s annual ‘Coats for Kids and Families’ campaign. They are asking for donations of new or gently used coats, gloves, scarves and toques.

“It’s a sad fact that some people in our city are having to choose between paying the electricity bill and buying a new coat for their kids,” said the United Way’s Connolly Tate-Mitchell. “And, we don’t think we should have to choose.”

Last year’s campaign handed out nearly 6,000 coats, but they say demand is always on the rise.

“So, any little bit helps if you have something that the kids have outgrown, we would appreciate having that,” said Tate-Mitchell.

Donations can be dropped off at the United Way office or any TD Canada Bank location in Lethbridge.
