Lester B. Pearson classes cancelled; support staff go on strike

MONTREAL – Classes are cancelled at the Lester B. Pearson school board Wednesday as strike action continues.

This is the first of two strike days for support staff, including daycare workers, librarians, IT technicians and student lunch supervisors.

Support staff have a different union to the teachers and have been in contract talks since January.

They are being offered the same salary increase as teachers, but said they want to show their support for all public sector strikers.

The support staff union has about 16,000 members.
