BAIE-D’URFE — Zombies, werewolves, skeletons, coffins… No, this isn’t a nightmare, it’s a haunted house for a good cause.
“We’ve been doing it since 1997 and every year we get bigger and bigger,” said homeowner John Pope.

What started off with just eight guests and a few mannequins has turned into a community event. The Popes now fill their front yard with hundreds of dummies and body parts, along with creepy sounds.
Rowan Lajoie and his grandparents live in Beaconsfield, but they make sure to pass by the house every year.
“I like the people there — like the werewolf guy and the skeleton,” said Lajoie. “I think it’s really cool.”
When visitors aren’t busy watching their step, they’re encouraged to make a donation to Light a Dream. The charity enables young adults with special needs to experience and learn in a business environment.
“When John told us that he was going to do it again for us this year, we were really really enthusiastic, and the students loved it last year as well,” said Anne Marie Plante, secretary at Light a Dream.
The display is usually set up for two weeks, but Pope says on Halloween night there will be live actors, including him and his wife, and a few other special surprises.
