Dog strangled in Toronto after leash caught in apartment building elevator

TORONTO – A dog has been killed after its leash got caught in a Toronto apartment building elevator early Thursday morning.

Toronto Fire said a man was walking a dog for a friend when he entered into an elevator at 2043 Victoria Park Ave. in Scarborough around 4 a.m. and the animal’s leash got caught between the doors.

The dog was strangled after the elevator moved up and the leash forced the mechanism to jam.

Officials said the man was trapped inside for about 30 minutes before he was rescued.

The female owner of the dog was taken to hospital for shock after she arrived on scene and discovered what had happened.
