TORONTO — Three people have died and a fourth has been rushed to Sunnybrook Hospital after a collision on Highway 404 near Stouffville, Ont.
York Region EMS responded to the collision on the northbound lanes of the highway, just north of Stouffville Road, at about 4:50 p.m. on Tuesday.
One of the vehicles appeared to have rolled over, while two others sustained heavy damage. Debris was scattered across the highway as firefighters appeared to extricate victims from vehicles after the crash.
Three people were pronounced dead at the scene while a fourth was rushed to hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Ontario Provincial Police said two vehicles were involved in the collision, but it is still unclear what caused it, and the investigation is ongoing.
All ramps to the northbound 404 at Stouffville Road and Elgin Mills Road were closed as investigators examined the scene.
Rush hour traffic was backed up on the southbound lane as well near Stouffville and police told motorist to “expect lengthy delays” throughout the area.
