It may be spring, but Edmonton isn’t done with winter yet. The winter blast may not be as bad as originally thought, though, as Environment Canada downgraded its winter storm warning for the area (which was initially upgraded from a watch Wednesday morning) to just a snowfall warning.
According to Environment Canada, Edmonton, St. Albert and Sherwood Park will be hit by up to 10 cm of snow by Thursday afternoon.

The intense spring storm will move north through Central Alberta Wednesday evening. Heavy snow has moved out of the High Level area, where 10 centimetres was expected to fall Wednesday. Instead, the snowfall will begin in the Drayton Valley and Leduc regions and spread north through Slave Lake overnight. The Fort Saskatchewan and Leduc regions will only see heavy snow in the western part of those regions.
Environment Canada expects the highest snow accumulations to be in areas west of the QEII highway.
Areas west of Edmonton will also see northerly winds gusting to 60 km/h Thursday morning which will combine with the falling snow to give near zero visibility at times. Motorists should use extra caution in these areas.
